Childrens Counselling in Langford
Children’s counselling at Parkway gives kids a space to be understood, with a counsellor who knows how to meet them where they are.

Who is Children’s Counselling For?
Children’s counselling with Michelle Maxwell is suited to kids roughly ages 5 to 12 who are dealing with things like:
- Worry, fear, or anxiety that interferes with sleep, school, or daily life
- Big emotions that feel too big to manage, including meltdowns or shutdowns
- Sadness, withdrawal, or loss of interest in things they used to enjoy
- Trouble at school, with focus, friendships, or behaviour
- Family changes such as separation, divorce, a new sibling, or moving
- Grief and loss, including the death of a loved one or a pet
- The emotional impact of an accident, injury, or medical experience
- Bullying or social struggles
- Sleep problems, nightmares, or trouble being apart from a parent
- Adjusting to a diagnosis or learning difference
How Michelle Works With Children
Michelle Maxwell (MA, RCC) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor at our Happy Valley clinic. With younger clients, she uses an approach that fits how kids actually communicate, which is rarely through long conversations on a couch.

Play, art, and conversation, mixed together. Kids process through doing. Drawing, building, storytelling, and games are not just to keep them busy. They are how children show what is going on inside.
A warm, predictable space. Children settle when the room feels safe and the adult in it is calm and consistent. Michelle is both.
Skills they can actually use. Simple, age-appropriate tools for noticing feelings, calming a worried body, asking for help, and handling tough moments at school or home.
Working at the child’s pace. Some kids are chatty from minute one. Others need several sessions of play before they trust the room. Both are normal and both are welcome.

A Few Things That Often Help Parents
If you’re not sure whether counselling is the right step, here are some signs it might be worth a conversation:
- Behaviour changes that have lasted more than a few weeks
- Worry or fear that is getting in the way of sleep, school, or play
- A recent event the family is still recovering from
- A sense that something is off, even if you can’t quite name it
You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to bring your child in. Counselling can also be helpful during a transition, after a tough experience, or simply because a child is having a hard time and could use extra support.
